So another year of collecting games. Going into my 12 th year as a game collector. A real hipster hobby by now.
Been slacking about with my stats again. Keeping this little website falling into obscurity. But I could still manage to keep most op my 2 main systems quite up to date...
2015 was my worst fleamarket year so far :( Granted, I do have quite some games, so finding new one's is not that easy anymore. But still, finding good trade bait was not a given this year. I got lucky at a couple of conventions. Made trades with competitors and colleagues. And got lucky a few times. But it all wasn't for lack of trying. I really put a lot of time, effort, heart and soul into my hobby... I can finally with out a doubt call it a passion.
Now for the stats of 2015:
My naive goal of getting 400+ NES games was just plain foolish. Sure, I got a couple, and a fair amount of upgrades and boxes. But looking at the pal b list of games I need less than 50 to complete the collection.. There comes a time one should accept it won't happen anymore :( I tapped out at 363...
As far as Super Nintendo goes I have a lot more give on that one :) I set my goal to get more than 400 as well. And I did, just in time. I reached 402 by the end of the year. Must say I bought a lot of fillers too, but fuck it they count!!
Some of the more memorable moments were:
- Number game number 400: Sink or Swim
- Finally got a affordable copy of Sunset Riders
- Finding a couple of boxed consoles that were high on my wanted list
- Getting my hands on a collection from an old classmate
- Getting first pick on someone's collection.
Games, games, games!!
I will try to put some of my additions here. I've been lazy :) Found a lot, but neglected my website. So I'll try and put some things here.
2015 is not our best year so far :/ Fleamarkets are not paying up the way they did previous years. My only catch is NBA live 97 cart for SNES, Zelda for GBA and an upgrade for Tetris 2
I did 3 conventions so far. Ending me with a fair amount of games:
I bought Battletoads vs Double Dragon for a good price from a fellow collector! Thanks for that!
In Kalken I got lucky to buy the Wireless controllers for 10€ just before a reseller was trying to get it ;) I also upgraded 3 games: A boy and his blob, Mohawk headphone Jack and Mystic Quest!
And I got missing 7 manuals!! The Star Wars game is a new addition as well. That rounds up the convention in Kalken!
Finally I got a manual for AvsP! I did have to trade my Donkey Kong country 2 for the game so I began searching a new one. So far I found an empty box for it, and an upgrade of my SMW box!!
Another year of collecting! Time for the score!!
Got to say I went a bit crazy at times as i feel my hobby and passion is slowly drawing to an end, I tried to secure those harder to find items :( My 2 beloved systems are getting harder and harder to find. Combined with the hipster vibe going on in the world of collecting games, it makes me feel like everyone is a gamecollector nowadays. Gamehunting has really become hunting at times!
So for the score of this year:
352 NES and 360 SNES games!! Got a lot of box upgrades as well. Since they don't count as new games the numbers don't go up that fast anymore!!!
I made a goal for this year (nearly impossible to achieve though) to get 400 games on both systems. But I would be happy to have at least 20 new SNES games in 2015! Or a couple of smackers instead :)
I would also like to fully update my list of other systems. So far I updated my PSX and PS 2 games.
The last edition of the Kalken retro convention was great. I got some new stuff and made some sweet trades! I'm really pleased with the Game & Watch!! Next to that I traded some games for a boxed Sega Saturn. After waiting for it for about 15 years I managed to add it to the bunch !!
Last week I also traded my Noami Cabinet for 2 boxed SNES consoles! The rare SF2 Turbo UK only edition and the Super Gameboy edition!
And now for the milestone!! I wish it could have been a sexier title, but it's like collecting itself; beggars can't be choosers.. I picked up Brett Hull Hockey for 2 euro. Not knowing that that game would be my 350th SNES game. Talk about a whopper ! Since years I had much more SNES games compared to the NES. Since last year it evened out a bit. Right now I'm up to 341 NES games.
(24/08/2014) This is our annual smacker!!!! We really didn't think it would ever happen again!! We were siked!!! A rush of euforia went over us! And it stayed for 3 weeks!!
Going hard to yardsales and never getting a descent loot really makes it hard to keep going strong every time.. But it needs only 1 loot like this to recharge you for another year!
This little yardsale has been good to me in the past, but never this good!
And another sidenote: This one was snatched by us about 3 minutes before a reseller would have gotten them. SCORE!!
The 2 left collumns are doubles, the rest went into our collection.
July 2014! Man oh man this was a sweet deal!! This guy sold his collection on Facebook. I remember when he posted his find on the internet a year ago. He bought this at a little fleamarket for 120€ (note that there was a lot more in the lot, the pic is only what I kept) I was talking about this deal alot cuz it was so sweet. Not a year later he sold the entire lot. I was the first one to react and I was lucky enough to bring it home too.The price was fairly ok (but no where near 120:p) since I had a lot of the games, so I could sell some of the Zelda games and others to get the most of my money back. But there were some titles in there that were high on my wanted list! I completed my NES Castlevania collection for example.
Some of these games were so minty I couldn't believe it. Gunsmoke, Double Dragon, Metal Gear, Ghost 'n Goblins, Section Z.. All of them are almost brand new I couldn't believe it. The picture was blurry on the add. But I really didn't expect to have all the extra box upgrades (the 2 bottom rows are all upgrades!). The grey Zapper and SMB NES console are mine now! I also kept the 2 little Nintendo cases. The Advantage and Action set were not added to my collection.
I bought 6 games online. I had most of them, but the thing that really made me buy this is Biker Mice from Mars. My box was just sooooo scuffy! I upgraded my Power Rangers box as well. And I added the Fighting Edition to my collection too.
It's summertime!! The weathergods have been good to us :) We had very little rainy weekends in the summer. Finding nice games was a bit more difficult. During the summer we found little to nothing so far. However! We did manage to score some nice things... Check them out!!
We found this set of nice Gameboy titles in our hometown. Together with our first real retro catch of the year!! A boxed NES with about 15 games. No pictures from that one though :(
This is my cut from our loot!!
It was my birthday!! And I got retrogames too!! My girlfriend bought me Dragonball Z and my trusty gamehunter provided me with The Humans. I thank you both very much!! And to top that off my mom found some old games laying around in the attic. To my surprise there were 2 of them I still missed. So later that day I added F-15 Strike Eagle and the big box edition of Mach Rider to my collection. A very happy birthday indeed!!
And so does my collection. I'ts unbelievable to see how much I am into collecting again. How I wish I would have picked it up sooner. Prices seem to skyrocket like never before!! So it is really now or never. If this goes on it wont be affordable in a couple of years.
So next to the fleamarket hunting I tried to find some lots here and there now that I still can. It is getting so hard to find something good on internet these days. I feel like all collectors in the world are refreshing their browsers all the time.
Anyhow, I got 2 lots. The second one injected my collection with quality like never before. I made movies about both finds!
The fleamarket finds have not been that great, but we were spoiled brats after 2013. Our very first indoor fleamarket was an instant hit! We found 2 boxed G&W consoles. So still some nice finds, but not a single nes or snes game so far :(
These are various pickups from a few weeks. The year started great with the boxed Lifeboat we found just minutes before a reseller would have gotten it!! An extra cherry on the pie? Why thank you very much!! That same day I got Azure Dreams and Suikoden 4!!
All other games came from various yardsales with little to no loot, so I just made this into 1 picture.
Note that Oil Panic was a trade!
